Based on a true events, it's a heart wrenching story of a Dutch painter who finds his true self is actually a woman. As this is the early nineteenth century, anyone displaying something other than pure male or female gender identification was considered sick o crazy. His struggle to become the person he is inside takes many turns. Emotional...tender...poignant.

Beautifully filmed, excellent acting and contemporary story. Well done.

It was slow in spots. The relationships with other men and the dancer were unclear & confusing. The acting and scenery were beautiful. it made me weep.
