Works on almost every level. Spielberg’s childhood, adolescence and young adulthood is detailed in such a way that captures your attention and seizes your compassion, despite the mundane challenges of divorce in an upper-middle class household acting as the story’s central device. Just below that, is young Steven’s struggle to unconditionally love his family or cater to his artistic ambitions.

Excellent acting, engaging characters, provocative story line that traces family members and others through their changing relationships over years and also reflects some interesting history of film-making, It did drag a bit at times--perhaps could have been about half an hour shorter.

story that shows the struggles families go thru and how those relationships shape your life and that you may not realize until you make a movie about them!

I enjoyed it and the time flew by, but I just couldn't get past Michelle Williams' very non-Jewish performance. It's a good film and very interesting, but I honestly preferred Armageddon Time which is another 'origin story' of a Jewish film director.
