Not that great a storyline.

It was ok. I was expecting so much more relying on the hype of the film. Gratuitous sex scene based on stereotype of Asian men”s anatomy was wholly unnecessary and offensive. Hearing Asian parents curse so much like the younger gens was very unsettling and not very realistic. Abrupt ending was disappointing.

The parts that were emotionally charged did a great job of making me really feel, but the in between parts felt like too many themes were being stuffed into one movie with little development and a very open ending.

I love Eddie Huang and his perspective on Asian American life. However this film didn’t quite capture that experience in the way that his tv show has. The characters were interesting but the story was muddled. While this film didn’t blow me away, I hope Eddie Huang continues making tv and films sharing more stories of Asian American life
