A thoughtful look into the lives of lower class men in middle age with the specter of past heroin use haunting them. We revisits the first film's characters decades later. They are still opportunists taking advantage of whomever they can in their poor, socially alienated lives. Fascinating, thoughtful, and bittersweet, with nostalgia for what most people would call the worst of times, this film is a great example of modern film noir.

This movie is exceptional. The cinematography - art and gripping. Nothing predictable about this movie but nominations.
