As I sit here after watching this film, I grieve for Mohamedou Ould Salahi and the atrocities my country's government committed against him. A formal apology is the least we owe to him and his family. I demand to know why to this day, he has not been allowed to live with his wife and son. Jodie Foster and Benedict Cumberbatch give stellar performances but it is French actor Tahar Rahim who is a revelation as Mr. Salahi, in an acting Tour de Force that deserves an Oscar for Best Actor. His masterfully crafted turn as the wrongly accused man whose story the film tells is one that will remain buried under my skin as one of the best I have ever seen from any actor. This story needed to be told and I urge each and every lover of truth and justice to watch The Mauritanian because it will change their life. Kudos to the cast and crew, and thank you.

Oh. My. God. Oscars all around PLEASE. I'm heartbroken, I'm angry, I'm astounded. The story is one that should never die. It's a perfect movie to portray the unjust system in this country. My first birthday was the day after 9/11 so quite literally as I've grown up, I've watched the truth and injustices reveal themselves. Every year I've been forced to watch the event and the aftermath. What I've never been taught is the aftermath of "the other side". This is a story that should be taught. This is the reality of the justice system. It is a shame. As for the production aspect, again, Oscars all around, please. The cinematography was beautiful and the editing quickly became my favorite. The acting of everyone was immaculate. I cannot wait to bring this one up in class.

Well cast, well-told narrative addressing contemporaneously relevant content. Even with frequent streaming hiccups, the story was compelling. Will highly recommend it.
