This film is really about the performances (as directed by Regina King). All of them do a great job at bringing to life the essence of the person they play. By the end, I was moved to tears by the power of the film's message.

The performances by the four leads are compelling and subtle--no one takes up too much oxygen, and the emotional build toward the end is slow and steady. The message about what it means to have power sneaks up on you, and it's fascinating to see how these four men weigh their responsibility to use their power for a good cause. Regina King's direction is spot on.

I loved this film. All four performances by the lead actors were outstanding. It is hard to choose one over another. Leslie Odom Jr.’s performances of Sam Cooke‘s music were a wonderful highlight. And his final performance of “A Change is Gonna Come” was mighty. Regina King crafted a beautiful film that I will be watching again when it is released on Amazon.

It was great. Still very relevant today. It was inspiring to hear the conversations between the men.
