The best Gerard Butler movie in awhile. Differs from traditional asteroid movies. A crew is not sent up to destroy the asteroid, it breaks into chunks and hits earth causing a mass extinction event. One scene makes you think of the worst hail storm, except its flaming chunks of asteroid. This movie is grounded and focuses on one families journey to an underground bunker to save at least some of humanity. Morena Baccarin is stunning, I kept thinking how much she looked like Gal Gadot/Wonder Woman. Not your typical apocalypse movie.

I like a good disaster movie, and this was good one. The usual tropes were there but that is what I go to see them for. The couple who is currently separated but really still in love. The salty grandfather who really does like his son-in-law after all. Still, there were enough little twists to take it out of the banal, and the special effects were nicely done. I always think disaster films never linger long enough in the realm of the devolving. More disaster less running from it, but perhaps I'm alone in this. Overall, solid escapism. I was pleased that I was chosen for an early viewing. Thank you.
