I went in with high expectations considering I've been a fan of the book for 20 years. I will say that while the movie deviates almost entirely from the book, it was a fun romp. Looking at it just as a stand alone movie, it was highly enjoyable. Humor was properly timed, nothing felt forced, and the cast seemed to genuinely enjoy creating the film. It had its cheese, like any giant monster movie.

Well for me I could have written the script ... as it WAS VERY predictable. But with that said it didn’t take away from the suspense and fear factor of what obviously takes place! The jumps from being scared were many with a lot of tongue in cheek humor. I love mivies like this . A most enjoyable summer popcorn chomping movie!!!

The Meg was exactly what you would expect from a shark movie. It was funny, action-packed, and entertaining.

As a stand alone it is an excellent shark movie. Good character development as well as enough action to keep it interesting. The little girl added just enough humor to cut the tension but not too much making it cheesy.As a movie based on a book it had characters in common and that is about it. It was not close enough to the book to say it had any connection with it at all.
