The true life story of the Granite Mountain Hotshots is well worthy of a full-up, straight documentary. There's plenty of drama that needs no embellishment. Aside from three or four ANNOYING story contrivances, ONLY THE BRAVE serves up an otherwise respectful dramatization of heroism and sacrifice. I only wish that more of the FACTS were shoe-horned into the film. Terrific ensemble performances all around. Too bad that real life smoke from the Northern California wildfires hung in the air.

The story of the Granite Mountain Hotshots is now more timely than ever, given the wildfires in Napa and Sonoma Counties. These American heroes are portrayed as real people who are heroic saving people's homes from devastation rather than superhuman larger than life caricatures. Romantic love and brotherly love are shown honestly, without excessive sentimentality. Josh Brolin, Jeff Bridges and Jennifer Connolly give inspired performances and Miles Teller shines as the new guy on the team.
