I didn't expect the humor that came out of this film, and I was pleasantly surprised at that. I didn't think the scene with the hashtags lighting up the buildings was really necessary to make the point and seemed incongruous with the rest of the film. Acting was terrific, and the choice of actors for the parts were well done.

The story was one we are all curious about...what happens to these media men and women when they are "captured" by Middle East militants. While this left out quite a bit of the violence, and the subject hostage was "one of theirs", it was a bit soft and not so scary. The lead actor did a wonderful job portraying the captive.

This general topic has been done before, of course. The performance is solid; the torturer's performance is better; the direction is perfectly okay but unremarkable. The theme of when to resist and when not to resist is not entirely explored. The theme of using prisoners as political playthings is sometimes ridiculed by not fully explored, either. the theme of PTSD is of course not explored. And we have only the afterword about helping other prisoners. ... Maybe read the book instead?
